No I don't want to build one from scratch because I don't want to cut and hack my nice pertty interior up. but I do want it to be certified. also I'm going to do a driveshaft loop too. but it will be afew months to say the least.

I thought to be certified it had to be welded to the chassis not bolted?

It's bolted in with a sandwhich plate underneath. You have to be a good welder to weld to that thin floor sheet metal without actually makin it weaker than a bolt in. I am sure Nick is that good of a welder but it is legal bolted in with the sandwhich plates for NHRA. From MM sebsite"

"The MM Roll Bars for hardtop Mustangs are designed to bolt to the chassis, without welding. The floorpan is sandwiched between the roll bar mounting pads and the back-up plates underneath the floorpan. There is a significant clamping force between the two pads, providing a very secure method of attachment.

While any MM roll bar may be welded into the car, there are serious issues to consider. If the installer is not a qualified "expert welder", the installation may be much less safe than a bolt-in installation. Welding anything to the thin sheet metal Mustang floorpan will create a heat-affected zone around the weld. If the welding is not done by an expert, that heat-affected zone may fail and cause the roll bar to poke through the floor in a rollover accident."

yea what brein said....for a unibody car, you can either weld plates to the floor, or if you bolt it, you have to run plates underneath.

personally, i would weld it.

but as far as the interior goes, something will prolly have to give, from to looks of that pic most likely the plastic beside the rear seat back.

Looks like you will to cut the rear plastic panels, doing it as clean as this is the fun part. The main hoop and door bars don't look like they require cutting any interior panels. http://www.maximummotorsports.com/content/tech_info/roll_bars/images/SNH/large/MMRB-7Install(3)_LG.jpg

Yeah, seems like awhile ago they had a picture up not showing it going through there. it looked like it went between the seat and that piece of plastic. I've got plenty of time to do some research I just don't want to hack everything all to heck and back just have a roll cage.

You probably saw a pictue of a 1979-1993 Fox body, they don't look like they have to cut the plastic.

The steeda one I don't think is going to be certified, and Izzy shop is in Saint louis thats a ways away to get a roll cage although I do have a bootie call up there. LOL

you do know you get the cage certified here in town after its in the car right?

and theres no point in driving that far for a custom cage, i could build one or atleast two other shops in town could do it.

i built this from scratch, i think i can handle putting a lil six point in a mustang.

I saw a year or two ago where a guy in a notch wrecked his car with a MM 6pt and ripped it right out of the floor. Where the plates go, it just shredded the floor, the bolts acted like knives and just slit the sheetmetal. The guy died, it was a bad deal. You are def way safer welding it. I would still get a custom cage, because it will be more valuable, and the MM cage is actuall kind of shitty. It is a BITCH to get in and out, and it will never fit like a custom.

I'm starting to see that. I didn't know that "I" got the cage certified here in town. I've never went through this process before. I agree that thats too far to drive that puts things in prospective alittle too. I don't mind to spend some money and do this right. It would probably be easiest to do the sub frames at the same time as the roll cage? as far as not having to redo alot of stuff hu?

no the sub frame connectors and cage have nothing to do with each other, except maybe taking the front seats out twice, if you get the kind that bolt to the seats.
